Introduction

HostMe service stores your files online and delivers them to the www community in your behalf.

HostMe servers store your files on high volume Internet servers. Your files are available for download around the clock, every day of the year.

This is a PPU service (Pay Per Upload).

Terms of Service

You can upload any type of file as long as it content does not violates the law. You must own the content, be the copyright owner or have a power to act in his behalf with regards to this content. If the content ownership could be disputed or a copyright notice is attached to it then you must upload a certificate that entitles you the power to redistribute such content in which case you must authorize our service to redistribute such content in your behalf. Certificate and authorization must be upload immediately after the content and in the same batch. Although accounts are rarely monitored, we reserve the right to delete content that we believe violates our rules or might endanger our service reputation or for any other reason and without advice. There will be no refund of paid fees after deletion of unlawfully or illegal content.

To handle (upload) your files you must use our software. You will not be authorized to use other media. Please be aware that software which is not downloaded from our servers is not guarantied to be free of any malign agents which can contaminate or endanger your data or harm your computer.

You release us of any liability that can arise from the use of the software and the service. You also release us and our suppliers of any legal liability arising from the distribution of the files you upload to our servers and from any loses you can incur from the use of this service, servers or failures as consequence of the use of public data transport lines and hardware owned and operated by other parties (providers).

At this time there are no other restrictions regarding the type of files or content of such files that you are entitled to upload.and distribute however we also reserve our right to change these rules at any time and without advice.

Account must be in good standing for the continuity of service. Payment of service fees are required for this service. In addition by using the service you acknowledge to have read these terms and agreed with them.

 

Collection of Information

We don't collect personal information from our users nor from the users who download your files. In case of necessity we will use the email address you provided at the time of payment for service in case we need to communicate with you.

 

Fees for Service

The use of this service requires payment for such services. Service costs are computed at the time of uploading and are calculated in a per file basis. Many incentives and discounts are applied and offered at the time of upload.
Uploads are then automatically handled by the software once payment is done.
This service is an annual contract. Eleven months after you will receive email notice to renew your contract. You will receive only one email notice. Accounts not current are deleted on the maturity date.

Discounts, Rebates and Coupons

The software by itself applies incentive discounts on uploads by quantities on certain file types. Also discounts are applied based on file size.
From time to time we may also issue rebates and coupons to be used with the service. Rebates and coupons will be delivered to web sites that handle such content. Rebates do have expiration dates and will not be honored after. Rebate validity are check electronically previous to payment for service. When an electronic coupon is used any other rebate or discount will be overridden.

 

Content availability

Your uploaded files (Content) are immediately available for download after successful upload provided that instant payment was acknowledged by payment processor. If payment is on-hold or an e-check was used for payment of service or the payment was not cleared at the time, then the content will not be available for download. Content will be available for download as soon as payment clears.
Upload of files will be allowed right after payment (whether or not it was cleared).

HostMe Help

Using HostMe is very straightforward. You just need to select the files to upload, upload them and copy the links to the files to your web site pages or to the target where you will link to them.

Selecting the files

Click on the second button from the left; The one that resembles a yellow folder. This will open a screen where you need to find the file to upload. Select only one file.

Repeat this step the many times for each files you want to upload.

Rebates and coupons

If you have a rebate or coupon enter the code into the coupon box. The coupon validity will be checked online before being applied to the transaction.

Uploading the files

  1. Make sure the files you want to upload have a check mark. (If the check mark is not checked the file will not be uploaded).
  2. Click on the button with an up arrow. Alternatively you can select Upload on the Project menu.

    The program will calculate the service fees and ask you if you want to continue.

  3. Click Yes and pay for the service.

The software will monitor the activity and after the payment step is accomplished it will begin uploading your files.

Linking to your files

Your account number is added to the original name of each file you upload.
You can get the complete link formatted and copied to the clipboard if you need it. To do so select File link on the Help menu. Also, you can check to see if the file was uploaded properly by selecting Test link from the Help menu. Doing this will let you download the file in the same way as any web user would.

Hiding or renaming the link

With this software It is not possible to rename a file or change the link in any way but you can take advantage of HitMan software for this and many other interesting tasks. HitMan was designed to work with Hit2Count servers and Host My Files (HostMe).

HitMan is a multiple counter display used to monitor files, pages and any content on the web that are monitored with counters. HitMan runs on Windows and presents you just with a minimalist representation of the activities on your files.

HitMan has many types of alarms for counters as well and among many other functions it let you hide the source address (where the files reside) and change the file name. i.e.: if the source is http://www.yourhoust.com/onedir/otherdir/thislongfilename.exe with HitMan it will look like http://hit2count.com/hit.cgi?youraccount/anyname.anything

HostMe software is included with HitMan version 4. But HostMe is also delivered as a stand alone product.

 

Online Files

Every time you run the software, the screen will appear empty. This is because the uploader does not store locally (in your computer) information about the files you have online. However, if you want to see what files there are online click on the button that has a triangle-like figure with three squares. (Refresh) and the software will retrieve it from the server provided you have an active Internet connection.

Important: You need to have the list of your online files on the display if you want to replace any of them otherwise the software will take you trough the payment steps.

 

Status display

The main display will show a reference to the current status of the file. This status might change after a pressing the refresh button or after uploading the file. The possible messages are:

Local: The file was not uploaded or an error has happened. The file is not online.

Online: The file was successfully uploaded and is available for download.

Shared: The file was just uploaded. It might be online and offline (local) at the same time.

Refresh: A replacement version of an existing file is ready to be uploaded.

Deleted: The file uploaded was deleted by the host administrators.

 

Abort button

This button is only effective to cancel upload attempts after an online problem was detected. Normally when you try to upload a file or files the software will retry if it failed to upload it successfully. If for any reason you want to interrupt this process press the Abort button.
The Abort button will not interrupt an ongoing upload once started but it might stop other operations if you press it just because. There is also the Lock Abort option on the Edit menu which serves the purpose of locking the Abort button In order to prevent it to be clicked accidentally.

 

Miscellaneous Information

It is no possible to delete files. If you need to update a file just upload a new version over. In this case to avoid paying service fees again you need to refresh the screen in order to get a list of the files you have online so the software knows the upload is not a new file but a replacement for an existing one*.

* No refunds will be honored for failure in following this procedures.

 

Date Upload

It is possible that the software shows a different upload date for a file you just uploaded. This is due that the date shown is the one reported by the hosting server and not your computer. This is the date used for billing among other things. The difference of dates (if any) is due that the host server may be physically on a different part of the world than you are.

 

HitMan account

HitMan is an online serial counter that let you track your files downloads by means of a desktop screen. On this screen you can view simultaneously any number of counters which are automatically updated in real time.

By having a HitMan account declared in HostMe many settings will be shared between HitMan and HostMe. Also, you will only have one account number to track and mantain your files.

If you want to take advantage of this you must open a HitMan account first (it is free to open an account). Then use that account number when HostMe asks for it.

You will have two different account numbers if you open a HitMan account after a HostMe account or if you declare not having a HitMan account when HostMe software ask for it. You will not be able to use a HitMan account number if HostMe software cannot verify or validate it.

You can use both services whether you have a HitMan/HostMe shared account or two separated ones.

Free counters

All paid files uploaded to HostMe host are given a complimentary HitMan counter at no charge. For this to be in effect uploader must have a HitMan account and a single account number in good standing for both services. These counters will last for the same period of time as the files to which are linked.
HitMan service gives 5 free complimentary counters to all new accounts. The assignation is automatic and immediate at account opening. Assignation of free counters for HostMe account is not automatic and subject to payment verification. User needs to check his account status on HitMan screen to learn when the slots were credited. (a slot is equivalent to a counter). Redemption of paid slots to free ones is not possible.

 

Password protection

This protection is only important to protect your files from overwriting by a hacking party. You will be required to set up a password the first time you upload a file. Keep that password stored in a safe place because resetting the password is not so straight forward.

You will only be prompted for the password if you need to replace an existing file.

To reset a forgotten password you must contact support, tell you need to reset the password and to prove your identity tell the last transaction you made. This is the processing fee you paid and at least 1 filename from that batch. In this way we guarantee no one but you is the legitimate owner of those files.
