Configuration

Messages are anonymous. However all of them have an attached Id but since no personal information is collected from the users that tag serves only to permit users to accept only or to refuse messages from some IDs.

You may want to refuse reception from IDs which send offensive messages or in a language you don't understand or for any other reason. To refuse reception from those IDs open the configuration screen by pressing F11. Press the button that says Never. Write the ID on the box and press enter or press the + button. Make sure the Never accept from box is marked.

If you otherwise want to receive messages only from a group of friends you can also do so. If you chose this option no messages other than from that group will be received. Open the configuration screen by pressing F7. Press the button that says Only. Write or paste each ID from your list of friends on a separate entry on the text box and press Enter after each one or press the + button. Make sure the Accept only from box is marked.

Note: Marking Accept only from overrides Never accept from and vice versa. Although the lists that contain each rule will remain only one rule is in effect at a time.

Important: Messages you write and are intended for your closed group will also be displayed to all other users because the program provides no way to keep a real closed network. You can only specify the users from who you want to receive but no to who you want to send.

Filter words:

The messages sent are not moderated or otherwise processed for content. Thus there is no way to make sure they are properly written or don't contain offensive words. To overcame this the software makes use of a dictionary. The program will look for and filter out matching words found on the dictionary. For this to be in effect the option Filter words must be marked. The filter is local to your program and the dictionary used is the one you select on the dictionary setting. At this time there is a dictionary for English and Spanish languages only.

Filtered words will be replaced with two asterisks ** to signal there was something else there.

You can modify your dictionary or create one for a different language. Dictionaries are located in the folder where the program was installed and for identification purposes must be named as the language it contains and with an extension 'dic' for the program to recognize it as such. For the program to find the dictionary it must be there before the program is run. The dictionary can be of any length and each word must be on the same line and comma separated. If you want to contribute with a dictionary visit the support site.

Spam:

Spam is usually explained as any form of unsolicited advertisement. To keep this program free of spam nomenclature used to form internet addresses are not allowed as the content for the main display. So for, text that contains such nomenclature will not be sent to the Internet.

Enable Actions:

The text printed in your desktop is composed by several parts. Some are: The sender's ID, a message ID, the text itself, a code for some action and the action. The action part is optional. The action can be an URL for a web site. This means you can send some text and a link to a web site whether more information about that topic can be found.

If enable actions is marked these actions will be available when the user clicks on the text.

Questions & Answers

Q: What is the purpose of this program?

A: This program was made for fun. The idea is to share anonymous ideas, confessions, things you want to get out of your chest without anyone knowing who you are. You can also share information, poems (whether you are or not the original author) and any other thing you want as long as it is represented with text. This text is printed on the recipient desktop in huge size letters and is updated every few minutes.

Q: Why is the text I sent not appearing on my desktop?

A: The text you send will be displayed on other users desktops only unless you check mark the option Keep my message on the configuration screen.

Q: Why is it so?

A: The idea is that you send anonymous messages and you receive other people's ones.

Q: Can anybody use this program?

A: This program is not recommended for computers that are not permanently connected to the Internet. Users of DSL or Internet cable services are usually permanently connected and need not to worry of requesters asking to connect.

Q: Is my contribution to the e-wall being downloaded by all computers?

Each individual client (the e-wall program) will download from the text queue according to their own settings. There is no guaranty however that your message will be downloaded by every computer. Also each user can ban messages from others by adding their ID to the unwanted list.

Q: How can I set the program so it stops receiving messages from a certain user?

To view the ID of the user who sent the currently displayed message press F3. On the screen that pops up you can select whether you want to add the user to the friends or to the unwanted list. If you add it to the unwanted list then that list also becomes active if it wasn't.

Q: How can I make sure the text I'm writing does not have typos?

Press F10 to expand the screen to see the whole text. Also you may want to select Sample text to view the text on your desktop while you type to get a glimpse of how it will read in other people's screen. Press F10 again to go back to the slim bar.

Q: How do I add actions?

Type your text and after you are done typing add the action code and the action. For example to add an URL type ( ascii character # 0222 = Þ ) and then the url. Including the http part is optional.
i.e.: This is a sample messageÞwww.caracolix.com

Q: How long a message can be?

The maximum message length is 313 characters which is about a screen full of text on a 1024x768 pixels screen. Characters added as an action do not shorten the message length.

Q: Is there a way to keep a message private and deliver it to a certain ID only?

A: No with this version. Do you want this? let us know on the support forum. If enough people request it. It might be included in the next version.

Q: Why the program ask for a language but the screens are in English?

A: The language you select is used for properly delivering messages to users that speak the same language of your messages.

Q: How often the messages change?

A: Messages are downloaded about once every minute. If the message don't change it may be due.that there are no new messages.
Note: Not all users-minutes change at the same time. The moment a minute changes depends on the moment the program was started and it has nothing to do with the computer's clock.
At the time of releasing the program the queue of messages will be kept online for about a month unless the length of the queue grows over the expectations in which case it will be reset daily.

Q: How often can I send a message?

A: Once at about every 15 seconds.

Note:
since messages are downloaded at about once a minute it has no sense to send many messages very fast. As more messages you send the lesser chances you'll have that people can keep up with yours. Also note that eWall always grabs the last message from the server queue and may well step over many hundreds of messages at a time so there might be a great chance that your queue of messages don't show. So in order to control the length of the server queue that temporization is enforced.

Q: How do I advertise my product on the bar?

A: Post a request to the support forum and we will contact you to the email you supplied when you subscribed.
